Pinterest Project - Day 1 {Knee Monster}

Yesterday I announced that during the month of September, I'll be doing a Pinterest project each day.
It can really be anything - a craft, sewing project, recipe, etc.

Today, I chose to make a Knee Monster!
You can find it in my Stuff For The Kids board.
It's no secret that I've got three active boys.
The good thing about this is that there are hand-me-downs.
The bad thing is those hand-me-downs can sometimes look a little...rough.
I almost never get to pass down jeans.  Heck, they usually COMPLETELY wear them out before they are outgrown.
But, I had a little hope when I saw the Knee Monster.  It's a patch you can make to fix the hole, but look pretty cool.

The original blog source (By Miekk) is in another language, so I just followed the pictures.
I didn't have embroidery thread, so I changed it up just a tiny bit.
In case you don't want to translate the blog, I've also decided to do my own tutorial.

Knee Monster Patch
Supplies needed:
jeans with holes
red fabric - scraps fine
white felt
fusible web or interfacing - I used Steam-A-Seam 2
thread - black for accents, blue for sewing patches on

1 Start with your tattered blue jeans.

2 Trim up the frayed material in the center.

Steps not shown:
3 Cut two layers of red fabric for each hole.
4 Use fusible webbing between (cut to size).
5 Iron.
6 Cut to oval shape at least an inch larger than hole on all sides.
7 Cut eyes and teeth out of felt.

8 Sew patches to inside of knees.
I used a darning plate on my sewing machine so I could just move the jeans around as I sewed.
Children's jeans are so small that it was the only way I could maneuver around the holes.
If you can lower the feed dogs, that's another option.
Or just hand sew - it won't take long!

9 I did a series of tight zig-zag stitches with black thread to make the pupils and details on the eyes.

 Finished Knee Monsters!

One happy Monkey Man!
His exact words were, "I look freakin cool."
Umm, we'll have to figure out where he's learning that!
